Finding The Perfect Arthritis Pain Relief Treatment For You

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Helen Hecker Said:

I found relief from my arthritis pain, naturally, and you can do it too. A few years ago I accidentally discovered how to rid one’s self of arthritis pain, naturally. Arthritis pain can be experienced whenever a stiff or swollen joint is used.

As a result of arthritis, the bone beneath the cartilage undergoes changes that lead to bony overgrowth and the tissue that lines the joint can become inflamed, the ligaments can loosen, and the associated muscles can weaken.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease of the joint cartilage and bone, often thought to result from “wear and tear” on a joint, although there are other causes of arthritis such as congenital defects, trauma and metabolic disorders.

The cartilage is slippery tissue that coats the ends of the bones. The combination of the collagen meshwork and high water content tightly bound by proteoglycans, creates a resilient, slippery pad in the joint, which resists the compression between bones during muscle movement. Cartilage contains chondrocytes, water, proteoglycans and collagen; chondrocytes are the basic cartilage cells and are necessary for balance and function.

Aging cells may be a factor in the development of arthritis. An inflammatory response causes cytokines, to gather in injured areas and cause inflammation and damage to body tissue and cells; it’s known to play a role in rheumatoid arthritis and other muscle and joint problems associated with autoimmune diseases. One possible cause of arthritis is the inflammatory response due to the over-reaction of the immune system to an injury or other assault in the body, like an infection.

Many have told me that going off dairy products and gluten containing foods relieved their arthritis pain entirely. Make smoothies with fruit only using a base of two bananas, adding a cup of frozen or fresh blueberries and mango chunks or substitute any other fruit and add an energy boost of two tablespoons of coconut oil; add one or two leaves of kale for another highly nutritional boost — no one will ever know.

Supplements that help any disease or ailment include vitamin B12 — the methylcobalamin type not cyanocobalamin, and has to be sub-lingual — dissolves slowly under the tongue; and vitamin D3 especially if you can’t get a daily dose of 15-20 minutes of sun on your arms and legs so you can make your own vitamin D3.

Some foods and beverages to avoid that are inflammatory are: caffeine, salt, sugar, meat, dairy products, additives, soft drinks, white flour, white rice, alcoholic beverages, fast food, processed vegetable oils, refined, packaged and processed food.

Natural treatment for arthritis is usually a better choice because it’s non-invasive to the body. Gluten may be a culprit in arthritic diseases including fibromyalgia; avoid wheat, barley, rye, spelt, triticale, kamut and oats (although not a gluten grain it gets contaminated at the wheat mills).

Many arthritis sufferers have changed their diets and noticed significant or total improvement. With natural treatments there will be fewer, if any, side effects or adverse reactions.

Not a food, but many, including one well-known professional golfer, still wear copper bracelets and swear by them. One natural treatment method involves avoiding all inflammatory foods.

There are a number of exercises which can benefit arthritis sufferers regardless of how much restriction of movement there is. Even the lightest exercise can go a long way to maintaining your joint mobility and overall health. Try to keep painful joint areas in motion, even in a limited manner. Whatever you do, keep moving; don’t sit when you can stand, don’t stand when you can walk.

To be on the safe side always seek your doctor’s advice before starting or changing your exercise program. If weight is an issue, try to use exercises that will help you in losing weight such as walking. Keep a bedside basket of arthritic aids for arthritic hands (Theraputty, hand grips, Taiji chime balls, etc.) to be used at bedtime or while watching television.

Let your doctor and pharmacist know about any other drugs, herbs or other supplements you’re taking, to ward off any adverse drug reactions that might occur from the combining of different drugs or supplements. Once you become more informed about arthritis you’ll be able to plan an arthritis treatment program, natural or conventional or a combination of both. For conventional treatment of arthritis – if you do choose to take drugs or medications, be very careful and read the labels thoroughly.

Changing your diet to predominately fruits and raw veggies, like I did, can turn your arthritis pain around almost overnight. Begin your treatment program with a diet change, exercise and weight loss plan to see results and pain relief fast. I got rid of my arthritis pain years ago when I stopped eating dead food and changed to a diet of all living foods; you can do it too.

Help for Dog Arthritis

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
villenoire Said:

a dog has a joint they can have arthritis. The cartilage in the joint may be inflamed, but it can also be joint fluid causing the issues within the bones. The main types of arthritis in dogs are osteoarthritis, immune mediated, infective, and idiopathic.

There are different types of dog arthritis. As is the case in humans with arthritis, the problem is an inflammation in one or more joints. This can be caused by an inflammation either in the cartilage in the joint or a problem with the joint\’s synovial fluid. In dogs, the most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis, infective arthritis, immune mediated arthritis and idiopathic arthritis.

Dog arthritis begins as a gradual limpness in the affected limb or limbs and may progress to lameness. An advanced case will reveal itself as a dog that is less active in play, on walks and generally has difficulty walking. The stiffness and pain are more likely to be pronounced in the morning or after a nap – when the dog has been sleeping in the same position for some time. During the day when the dog is most active, the pain is generally minimal.

A dog afflicted with arthritis will tend to feel pain if their limbs are touched near to where the joint is inflamed. There is usually swelling as well, but this will not normally be visible to the naked eye.

Arthritis medicine is available for dogs who suffer from the condition – this can treat the inflammation. Many dog owners instead opt for more natural methods of treatment for their pet, finding them more helpful in many cases. Glucosamine and MSM are two popular natural dog arthritis treatments (they are also used in humans with arthritis). A lot of experts in the field think that arthritis is best treated by a combination of MSM, Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

Glucosamine is an amino sugar which occurs naturally in the body – but part of the effects of aging is the loss of the ability to produce enough of this sugar for the body\’s needs. Glucosamine is not found in any significant food source, but can be obtained from the shells of shellfish. The anti-inflammatory effects it offers are very useful in the treatment of arthritis, in humans and in animals alike.

In many cases, a change in diet may be sufficient to alleviate arthritis in dogs. Some arthritic conditions will respond to this step in conjunction with exercise. Obesity can be a factor in the development of arthritis; by keeping the animal at a healthy weight, the aches and pains of arthritis can be taken away, as well as keeping the dog in a better overall state of health.

However, arthritis remedies of various sorts may be needed along with a change of diet in order to manage the pain and other symptoms of dog arthritis.

How to Cure Arthririts!

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
M.so Said:

Arthritis is a condition that affects the joints. Different people suffer from different types of arthritis the most common forms of arthritis are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common form and is not as painful compared to Rheumatoid arthritis which is more painful.

Osteoarthritis

Is when the cartilage in the joint is worn away until it gets to a stage where the bones rub against each other causing inflammatory of the joints. This is painful and mainly occurs in the: hands, spine, knees and hips.

Rheumatoid arthritis

Unlike a physical wearing of the cartilage, Rheumatoid arthritis is where the immune system attacks the cartilage and again the inflammatory causes pain.

There are over 200 forms of arthritis. The Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis are the main two followed by:

ankylosing spondylitis,

cervical spondylitis,

fibromyalgia,

systemic lupus erythematosis (lupus),

gout,

psoriatic arthritis, and

Reiter’s syndrome.

0.1% children suffer from arthritis. Arthritis in children is often called a juvenile idiopathic arthritis. There are three main forms of Juvenile arthritis the main one been:

Oligo articular which is the most common in children and affects the knees, ankles and wrists. Kids recover from this easily however this can lead to eye problems therefore you need to see a specialist ophthalmologist.

Arthritis mainly occurs in those over sixty who had a manual job. So in general it occurs in people who have physically worked hard rather then mentally worked hard.

Arthritis is really uncomfortable for all ages. In all cases it affects the joints which are all over the body. I have some remedies which will help you. Follow the link however if you do have a magnet then I advise you to place the magnet near the swollen joint which has been damaged as this is one of the natural remedies.

Do you want to stop the uncomfortable, thriving, aching pain?

If that’s a yes

Arthritis – Rheumatoid Arthritis

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Dale Martin Said:

Arthritis is a disease that causes inflammation and stiffness in the joints. One of the most common forms often affects the joint at the base of the thumb, called the basal joint. Arthritis is also very common in the joints of the hip, knees, hands, and arms.

Arthritis is one of the most common chronic health conditions in the US today. It is the major cause of activity limitations in older Americans. This statistic is bound to increase with the growing elderly population. Arthritis is often a chronic disease, meaning it can affect the person afflicted over a long period of time. It is a disease of the joints, characterized by inflammation of the affected areas. There are numerous types of arthritis, with the most predominant forms being osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Arthritis is the result of disease or damage to articular cartilage, the white glistening surface of our bones found in the joints. This type of cartilage is found in all major joints of the body, including the hips, knees, and shoulders, as well as the smaller joints of the upper and lower extremities and even the spine and pelvis. Affected joints tend to have a purplish discoloration. Affected joints may display signs of inflammation such as excessive warmth and/or swelling on palpation.

Arthritis is not a condition that only afflicts the elderly as some may think. There are many people that suffer from this debilitating condition at ages ranging from children to seniors. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability among Americans aged 15 and older. However, arthritis affects people in all age groups, including almost 300,000 children. Arthritis is the most common disease in people over age 45, with more than 40 million Americans suffering from some form. OA is by far the most common, while RA is the most crippling.

Rheumatoid arthritis affects people differently. For some people, it lasts only a few months or a year or two and goes away without causing any noticeable damage. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory condition caused by an irritation of the joint lining. A traumatic injury such as a broken bone, torn ligament, or ankle sprain can result in arthritis of the joint. It can also begin as part of an acute illness, with a high fever and inflammation of the joints. Sometimes It can develop with little to no discomfort except for fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, and maybe a mild fever.

Rheumatoid arthritis related inflammation can affect the heart muscle, the heart valves , or the blood vessels of the heart (coronary arteries ). If it begins with a high fever and other general symptoms is called Still’s disease. It can also affect connective tissue and blood vessels throughout the body, triggering inflammation in a variety of organs, including the lungs and heart. In severe cases, RA can lead to death from respiratory and infectious diseases. Rheumatoid arthritis is also an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks itself. Instead of fighting off viruses and bacteria, the immune system attacks joint tissue as well as tissue in other parts of the body.

Rheumatoid arthritis strikes chiefly the knuckle and wrist joints, but may occur in any joint. The disease frequently spreads throughout the body, damaging organs and connective tissue. The pattern of joints affected is usually symmetrical, involves the hands and other joints, and is worse in the morning.

Rheumatoid arthritis can strike people as early as age 30, but it most often occurs in people between the ages of 40 and 60. Women are much more susceptible to it than men. Prior to 60 years of age, it affects women three times as often as it does men.

Treatment is designed to relieve pain and restore function. Brief periods of rest may help if the arthritis has flared up. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, medication, bracing, physical therapy, or surgery and is tailored to best manage the condition of each patient. Orthopedic specialists at the clinic will address joint disease in hips, knees and shoulders. Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis is aimed at relieving pain and inflammation, preventing joint deformity, and preserving function. Most Treatment lasts just a few minutes per treatment. Updated x-rays are needed in order to determine exactly where treatment should be centered. Treatment is essentially the same for rheumatoid arthritis, with heavy emphasis on physical therapy and exercise to keep growing bodies active. Permanent damage from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is now rare, and most affected children recover from the disease fully without experiencing any lasting disabilities.

Another form of treatment called Biologics differ from conventional drugs in that they are derived from living sources, such as cell culture systems. Conventional drugs are chemically synthesized. Biologics Rheumatoid arthritis is a result of the complex interplay among cells called lymphocytes, cells called macrophages, and the messenger signals they communicate with, called cytokines. Biologic medications work by targeting these different areas.

Always consult a doctor or a physical therapist before beginning any training regimen. Age can also play a role in the cause of arthritis and should also be a factoring when planning a physical therapy treatment, something as simple as hip and knee exercises that increase your mobility can lessen the pain of arthritis. As we age cartilage can become brittle and can lead to joint problems.

The Treatments Available For Psoriatic Arthritis

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Greg Marsh Said:

If you suffer from psoriasis, then you are at risk for a condition called psoriatic arthritis. Arthritis is a term that is used to describe many conditions in which the joints in the body do not function as they should because of the body’s immune system literally attacking that of the tissues in the joint. Although this condition is one that is specific to those that suffer from psoriasis, others can experience arthritic conditions as well. The good news is that there is help out there for those that do have to deal with the swelling and pain of arthritis.

Pain, Pain, Go Away

For those that experience any form of arthritis, including that of psoriatic arthritis, the hardest part of the condition is that of facing the pain. As mentioned, your body’s white blood cells are attacking your joint’s tissue which causes a build up of proteins to happen in those areas. When those proteins build up, pain is heightened any time that you try to move that joint. You may actually feel the pain come on more intensely after you have been sleeping or have been sitting still for a while. In any case, the pain is very real and is something that needs to be addressed.

Even more so, without any type of treatment, conditions of psoriatic arthritis, which only occurs in individuals that have psoriasis, will only worsen. If you do not get the help you need, the joints that are being attacked can actually become deformed, swollen and eventually may no longer be able to be used. There is help out there, though.

Treatment Options To Consider

Those that are experiencing pain in their joints need to work with their doctor to determine the best medications to help relieve the pain that they are feeling. The medications will work in a certain way. First, you will take medications that will stop the progress of the condition, something that is important for maintaining the quality of the joint for later life. In addition, the treatment options that you have will be employed to stop the pain that you are feeling.

There are additional treatments that can be helpful as well. Some find help from arthritic crèmes and ointments. Exercise plays an important role in the health and well being of the individual as well as stringing the joints and improving range of motion are quite important. Heat can help at times as well. Massage has been effective at reducing the amount of pain your experience as well.

As you can see, there is help available to those that are suffering from psoriatic arthritis. Although the condition is not as debilitating as that of other forms of arthritis, it is still one that can range from mild to severe in pain and discomfort. Without the help of a doctor, you will not stop but encourage the arthritis to continue. Instead, working with your doctor can be the best route to getting the treatment that you need for this condition.

I Have Rheumatoid Arthritis. Why Is My Rheumatologist So Concerned About My Lungs?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Nathan Wei Said:

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common inflammatory form of arthritis. It is a chronic, autoimmune disease that affects more than 2 million Americans. While the primary target for this disease is the musculoskeletal system, RA is also a systemic disease meaning that if affects internal organs. One of the most common organ systems affected is the respiratory system.

Upper airway symptoms are often caused by Sjogren’s disease, an autoimmune condition that often accompanies RA. In Sjogren’s disease, the glands that make secretions such as tears, saliva, and mucus are gradually destroyed. Since mucus is necessary for the neutralization and mobilization of bacteria, people with Sjogren’s disease often develop recurrent respiratory infections.

The lungs themselves can be involved. People with RA can develop multiple problems including fibrosis (scarring of lung tissue), pleural effusion (water on the lung), pulmonary nodules (spots on the lung), and pneumonitis (inflammation of lung tissue.)

Finally, drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis such as methotrexate, gold, and newer biologic therapies can also adversely affect the lungs.

Also, acute lower respiratory tract infections are common in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, according to results of a study published in the September issue of the Journal of Rheumatology. Respiratory infections in this population carry a high mortality (risk of death).

“Rheumatoid arthritis…shortens life expectancy compared to a control population, and excess deaths are largely caused by accelerated vascular events and an increased propensity to infection, much of which is of respiratory origin,” researchers from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, UK, write.

The researchers examined whether the development of lower respiratory tract infection in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the result of their use of the drugs used to treat the RA or the inflammatory arthritis itself.

In a population of 1,522 RA patients seen over a 12-month period, 36 patients were admitted for 43 acute respiratory episodes. A detailed drug history and data on clinical outcome were collected for each case. The team collected and analyzed past medical history and admission data to evaluate the influence of oral steroids and disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDS) on outcome.

The overall annual incidence of lower respiratory tract infection in RA patients was 2.3%. Eight patients died from this problem, (mortality rate of 22.2%). Risk factors that predicted lower respiratory tract infection in this population included older age and male gender. An association was observed between oral steroid therapy and not taking DMARDs and an increased risk of hospital admission with lower respiratory tract infection. The authors report that there was a trend toward increased mortality in men and in those with duration of disease.

The researchers note that they have changed their clinical practice as a result of these findings. “In addition to initiating DMARDs early in all patients with RA, we actively recommend annual vaccination against influenza and pneumonia vaccination every 5 years in all patients, independent of their treatment,” the authors write.

“Older patients with long disease duration are now actively encouraged to start DMARD therapy rather than oral steroids, although drug selection may be be altered by the presence of coexistent cardiac or pulmonary disease.”

(J Rheumatol 2007;34:1832-1836).

Authors’s note: This study underscores the severity of rheumatoid arthritis on the general health and mortality risk for patients with the disease. It is not a benign disease. It is not “just arthritis.” As more data regarding the impact of RA on life expectancy is produced, it has become quite clear that RA must be diagnosed and treated aggressively.

Strategies For Natural Arthritis Pain Relief

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Robert Knechtel Said:

Natural arthritis pain relief is helped along by following the four basic strategies outlined here.

Exercise

What could be more natural than exercise? There are a number of exercises which are specifically designed for people suffering from arthritis. Basically three types of exercises are recommended for arthritis sufferers, namely, range of motion, strengthening and endurance. Particular emphasis should be placed up on range of motion exercises, since these will assist in joint mobility and help prevent stiffness. Dancing, for example, is ideal for enhancing range of motion. As time passes intensity of exercising can gradually be increased.

It goes without saying that stronger muscles will help support the joints. Strengthening exercises should be undertaken on a regular basis, but not necessarily daily. Gradual build up of muscle strength is preferable to help arthritis sufferers reach the point where this debilitating condition does not inhibit daily activities.

While not all people with arthritis can perform endurance exercises, for those who are able, walking, bicycling or swimming are highly beneficial. It is especially important, however, to avoid fatigue which can aggravate inflammatory arthritis.

Diet and Nutrition

Both older and younger people suffering from arthritis can benefit from eating a well-balanced diet. Studies have shown that excessive weight, and the type of diet consumed can have an effect on arthritis symptoms. At its worst, people suffering from severe arthritis may have difficulty in actually preparing the foods necessary to a balanced diet.

Also, one of the conundrums in coping with arthritis involves the combination of medications and diet. It is not unusual for some arthritis medications to reduce appetite or cause the stomach to become upset. Moreover, the pain, and associated depression, also can affect a person’s appetite. Regardless, it is incumbent upon the patient to strive to eat a wide variety of foods from the five major food groups in order to furnish the body with proper nutrition and enhance the immune system.

Weight Control

Excessive weight can have a negative impact on the body’s load bearing joints, particularly the knees, hips, spine, and feet, rendering arthritis in these regions of the body acutely painful. Effective weight control goes hand-in-hand with exercise and diet discussed previously.

Natural supplements

Probably the most widely used natural supplements for managing arthritis pain and symptom are glucosamine and chondroitin. Glucosamine occurs naturally in the body as well as in certain foods. It’s role is in the repair and maintenance of cartilage. Chondroitin helps to reduce inflammation and to protect against further breakdown of cartilage. Also highly recommended are the use of fish oil, together with vitamins A.C and E.

Conclusion

Taken together these strategies can go a long way toward helping provide a degree of arthritis pain relief and nomal daily functioning. An overall strategy that always proves beneficial, is simply to keep moving. When performing routine tasks throughout the day simply be conscious of the need to rotate joints and to make use of those parts of the body which are most afflicted by arthritis.

Arthritis Relief: Living Arthritis Free at Age 93

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Joe Barton Said:

Do you suffer from arthritis pain? Is life after arthritis becoming more difficult everyday? Do you wish you could feel like you are twenty again?

If you answered ‘Yes’ to any or all of those questions you are in the same scenario as almost 50 million Americans who suffer from arthritis. Sadly, more and more developed countries are reporting a significantly higher incline of cases of arthritis. Yet, in some undeveloped countries, arthritis seems to leave people untouched. The answer behind this will show you ‘how you can cure your arthritis naturally’ and ‘how to find the arthritis relief you always been looking for’.

If They Stay Arthritis Free, Why Can’t You?

Researchers have been dumbfounded to find indigenous tribes whose occupants live anywhere from 90 to 100 years of age yet seem to live arthritis-free up to there dying day. In fact, tribal member reportedly work up to their dying day and yet not one case of arthritis or heart disease has ever been documented. However, did you know that doctors in the United States report seeing arthritis sufferers who are 18 years old and sometimes younger? Why are arthritis cases growing exponentially? The answer might be more obvious than we think.

Arthritis Relief Starting Today

If you answered ‘yes’ to the above questions, what if I asked you, “If someone gave a 100% guaranteed relief for arthritis would you consider trying it?” Of course you would! Now consider that you can be arthritis free by changing you eating habits, drinking habits, breathing habits, activity habits and supplementing habits. In fact, it is almost simpler than that list. Let me explain.

The greatest cure for any ailment is the prevention of that ailment. Therefore, if you know how to prevent arthritis; you also know how to cure arthritis and find immediate relief for arthritis symptoms. How is this all done? By making simple lifestyle changes (similar to the indigenous tribes) to become arthritis free!

Arthritis Free At Any Age

The following is a guideline of what you should consider for treating arthritis symptoms. By learning more on each aspect, you can legitimately bring more circulation to the arthritic joint and begin to rebuild dormant cartilage of the joint. You will see significant results if you take each aspect of treatment seriously.

1. Your diet! Did you know that the greatest reason most people get arthritis is an improper, unbalanced diet. Your nutrition is extremely important. The basic guideline you should learn is that fresh and raw foods are always better than boxed or canned foods. Begin educating yourself on what foods are good and what foods to stay away from to treat arthritis.

2. Exercise! You should begin some kind of exercise program as soon as your body allows. Try something that is easy on your joints like swimming or elliptical. Supplement your cardiovascular (getting heart pumping) workouts with weight training.

3. Water! Caffeine and carbonated drinks are typically bad for arthritis. Discover ways to spruce up your water while consuming water 8-10 times a day.

4. Breathing! Breathing exercise can increase blood circulation to all parts of body, including joints. Think about how you feel after holding your breath for 40 seconds and taking that first gasp of oxygen. Your joints will fill the same way! Your joints need significant nutrients, water, and minerals (from blood) and also oxygen.

5. Vitamins! Processed food depletes vitamins and minerals from our diets. Learn what vitamins you should consider supplementing. The correct vitamins can make you feel 10 years younger.

6. Stress! Did you know that stress can create havoc on a person? Research suggests stress can take years off a person’s life. What makes you relax? Try relaxing for 20-30 minutes each and every day.

Don’t Delay

If you are anything like me, sometimes I will put something off until it absolutely needs to get done! Arthritis is an ailment you should NOT procrastinate with! In fact, you can actually severely distort the joint by not treating the arthritis. Finally, if you could treat and cure arthritis completely would you do it? Of course, anyone would!
